Decorating baby clothes!

Here are a few pictures of the baby things we decorated as a craft activity at a friend's baby shower. It was a while ago at a previous baby shower we had just used fabric pens. This time we had embroidery thread and fabric pens.

This was what I came up with:

I didn't really have a pattern in mind - I just did it freehand and waited to see how it turned out. I went with an "under the sea" theme as we didn't know the baby's gender. Plus, we also had number squares to make a pocket wall hanging with. I was given the "number 8" pocket so I stiched an octopus on it. I just ended up continuing the theme...

Maternity Hospital Gown

I have been in hospital on a few occasions and the hospital gowns are horrible. So here is my attempt at making a cotton hospital gown which is much nicer and more comfortable to wear. It is always fun to get my sewing machine out!

I have made a couple of these for friends who were pregnant. These gowns have extra fabric on the back panels so they can go right around their bump althought you can cut smaller panels to make a gown for a non-pregnancy related hospital visit.

These make great baby shower gifts. It is always nice to get something for the mum-to-be as they seem to get swamped with things for the baby. It is a way to show that you have been thinking about them as well as the baby.

I am modelling this gown and it looks a bit odd
as I don't have a bump!
Here are  a couple of pictures of it on a hanger... I will try to get some pictures on someone with a bump!

This is the back with the ribbons
Front view of the hospital gown.

I saw the idea here and I worked out how to make my own version. Do check out the link as the pictures are so cute and the photos are far better! Plus, the person in the gown is actually pregnant and has a bump so you get a good idea of how it should look. Plus, there are photos of a really adorable newborn!

Chinese New Year!

Happy New Year!

Disclaimer - The characters were copied from a website and could say pretty much anything as far as I would know! It should say "Happy New Year"...

Ok I know that this is not a traditional chinese new year cake... those recipies looked really complicated and used things that I hadn't ever heard of. So I thought I would mix cultures and create a Chinese New Year Victoria Sponge Cake.

Yum - multicultural cake!

Disclaimer - I know red is lucky not pink but I didn't have any red food colouring so it is a lucky pink cake... pink is a sort of red... isn't it?

It does have red jam in it! Lucky red raspberry jam.

Oh well it doesn't matter what the characters said now...

Homemade Bread!

I am just loving bread making at the moment! Prior to Christmas I managed to get my Mum into bread making again. I ended up getting my Mum a recipe book with 10 different dough recipes. We have fresh homemade bread here all the time now.... I wonder how long this will last?

Here is a loaf I made earlier:

The bread was good, however my ability to slice it is not. Just look at how uneven those slices are!
